Romance in the 1920s – Mallory Everest Expedition Love Letters
Recently found love letters from George Mallory on the failed 1924 Everest expedition are to be sold by Bonhams auction house.
They clearly show romance and infatuation by 37 year old Mallory, 1920s style for a young woman, the 19 year old Marjorie Holmes.
“Your letter, kept in my pocket during the busy day was read at length in bed last night. Why should a letter from you have strange effect on me? strange effect? well, only this, that after reading it I wanted to kiss you.”
